Technical Safety Manager Full-Time

About this role

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the Technical Safety Engineering team whose mission is support the operating asset / project in delivering improved process safety performance;
• Developing and strengthening working relationships with other disciplines to implement AIPSM and support the management of major hazards;
• Managing team work list and utilizing this in conjunction with HSE Plan for Technical Safety Team to set short and long term goals for the team; Setting and reviewing performance indicators to ensure effective delivery of work list and HSE plans;
• Using Technical Safety know-how to challenge business to deliver improved HSE Performance;
• Functioning as a TSE Technical Authority;
• Providing Hazards And Effects Management Process (HEMP) leadership on complex issues, ensuring appropriate ALARP / risk decisions are made even when significant uncertainties exist;
• Supporting Process Safety Performance improvement through participation / leading in significant incident investigations, audits and reviews;
• Provide key measuring, reporting and feedback on Technical safety performance. This will include a range of KPI’s and metrics that quantify performance in Technical safety / Asset Integrity;
• Custodian for the AMA1 Technical Safety Engineering procedures and guidelines contained within the AMA1 HSE MS and ensuring effective application across the business;
• Co-ordinate the development, approval and maintenance of the Operations Safety Case(s);
• Facilitate external and internal learning with respect to MAH incidents ensuring learning from major incidents are incorporated into HSSE processes and procedures;
• Promote awareness, coach and train staff and managers in effective Safety Engineering and Major Accident Hazard management.

Monitor and manage legislation changes and the effect on Safety.

About you

Qualifications

• Technical Engineering or Advanced Science degree with 15 plus years related to the oil and gas industry;
• A master’s degree in safety risk engineering would be advantageous;
• Broad knowledge and skill in the application of TSE techniques and tool;
• Previous role in TSE / Process Safety Management;
• Excellent judgment and understanding to determine when risk have been reduced to ALARP;
• Broad knowledge of the oil and gas business and its Process Safety aspects (often gain via Operational or previous TSE / PSM role);
• Sound understanding of safety legislation and standards typically used in oil and gas engineering i.e. API;
• Proven ability to positively influence an organisation’s management of change process;
• Experience managing, mentoring and developing multi-disciplinary teams;
• Experience in all areas of management, with good technical skills and the ability to integrate the technical, commercial and governance aspects of the work;
• Ability to represent Anadarko externally in stakeholder forums;
• Ability to understand the underlying issues associated with incidents and to develop plans to ensure continuous improvement and focus is maintained;
• Ability to provide strategic focus and continuous improvement of AMA1 safety performance;
• Highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to interact with staff and management at all levels;
• Ability to motivate and manage a diverse team across a breadth of activities, and lead by example;
• Demonstrated experience with working effectively with external regulators and other agencies.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in engineering or advanced science, preferably with a master’s degree in safety risk engineering.

Language

Fluent oral and written knowledge of English.
