The Senior Specialist Environment provides environmental compliance services. This position has the following objectives:
To ensure the adoption and implementation of the environmental management strategy and plans in support of the purposes and objectives set out in Sasol’s Safety, Health, and Environment Management System (SHE) Governance Manual
To coordinate Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Licensing processes, obtain and main Sasol OBUs environmental and social licenses to operate in Mozambique.
The incumbent works within the framework of the Sasol SHE game plan, and is a key input in the formulation of Environmental tactical objective setting in the environmental projects portfolio.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide specialist input into obtaining and retaining relevant environmental licenses / authorisations
Provide specialist input into relevant Environmental Impact Assessments;
Coordination, planning, scheduling and review of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes.
Influence business decisions to promote sustainable operations / project activities and enhance environmental and social performance
Develop and implement environmental improvement plans aligned with One SHE Excellence Game Plan
Ensure that projects and operations are executed in line with legal and EMP requirements within design and legal compliance limits.
Monitor environmental performance and ensure that the process is documented and reported appropriately
Ensure that affected stakeholders are consulted and relevant information shared in a timely and transparent way during EIA processes and during project execution.
Give specialist inputs into the management of environmental challenges within Sasol’s overall sustainability approach to mitigate business risks.
Manage multi-level interfaces and integrate effectively. Interact with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Participate as member of Environmental forums, natural working teams and other groups
Influence business decisions to promote sustainable activities and enhance environmental and social performance
Initiates, coordinates and participates in environmental audits. Prepares environmental assessments of Company property.
Recommend actions to reduce potential environmental hazards
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other related sciences or related field (including Natural Resource Management, Biology, Ecology or Earth Sciences)
EXPERIENCE:
5 years of experience in environmental management, regulations and operations experience with demonstrated increasing responsibilities performing highly complex work desired. Practical environmental experience related to hydrocarbon research and production is a major advantage.
Experience in the preparation and review of environmental documentation including environmental assessments and environmental impact statements, Knowledge of project management processes Deep knowledge of the legislation and methodology of the EIA in Mozambique.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
Ability to communicate fluently in Portuguese and English
Ability to develop and review documents, reports, presentations etc in English and Portuguese
