Manager: Access & Transport Plan & Eng Full-Time

Role purpose

The Manager Access & Transport Planning & Engineering oversees and manage the Vodacom Transport and IP Network Infrastructure. The role is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective access and transport solutions are developed and implemented to support the organization’s network infrastructure requirements. This role also required to foster positives relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to get synergies for the team The role will ensure the delivery of Fixed and Mobile Network infrastructure through a comprehensive end to end service models based on modern and best practices for Access Transport and IP Network Infra.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership

• Develop and implement access and transport planning strategies and solutions to support the organization’s network and infrastructure requirements. This includes analysing current and future network needs, identifying access and transport options, and evaluating their feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Lead the engineering design process for access and transport infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop detailed engineering designs, specifications and documentation.
• Oversee access and transport planning and engineering projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budgetary constraints. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure effective project execution and adherence to project plans.
• Provide technical guidance and expertise in access and transport planning and engineering activities. Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and optimize network infrastructure performance.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience

• 5+ years management experience in a Network environment, of which at least 3 years in a management capacity.
• Effective management of a complex organization of professionals and other stakeholders (regulator, vendors) providing leadership, problem solving and fast decision making.
• Deep knowledge of mobile and fixed technologies (standard and non-standard) across the Consumer and Business customer base.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior management. Leadership skills to provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to a team of access and transport planning and engineering professionals.

Must have technical/ professional qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Professional certification or licensure in relevant engineering disciplines (e.g., Professional Engineer).
• In-depth knowledge of access and transport technologies, such as MPLS, DWDM, Ethernet, and wireless networks.
• Familiarity with network planning and optimization tools, traffic engineering software, and GIS applications.
• Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
• Understanding of regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to access and transport planning and engineering.
