Internship Programme for the area of Human Resources Full-Time

Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the HR Associate, the HR Intern supports in the provision of HR services ensuring high quality, accuracy, and consistency of work. The HR Intern promotes a client-oriented and consistent with rules and regulations approach in the Unit.
The HR Intern works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and projects’ staff in the CO and UNDP HQ and RSCA staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.Incumbent will approach work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude and display a strong client orientation. As such s/he will display flexibility in performing other emerging tasks assigned by RR/RC or supervisor/manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supports on the implementation of HR strategies focusing on achievement of the following results:

• Full compliance of HR processes and records with UN/UNDP rules, regulations, policies and strategies;
• Input to the CO business processes mapping and elaboration of the content of internal Standard;
• Operating Procedures (SOPs) in HR management in consultation with the direct supervisor and office management.

Supports on the Implement HR services focusing on the achievement of the following results:

• Preparation of draft job descriptions, vacancy announcements, compiling matrixes, performing functions of Secretary in interview panels;
• Preparation of contracts (FTA, TA, SCs);
• Tracking of all transactions related to positions, recruitment, benefits, earnings/deductions, retroactivity, recoveries, adjustments and separations;
• Maintenance of the CO staffing table;
• Collection of background information for submissions to the Compliance Review Board (CRB) and Compliance Review Panel (CRP);
• Update of the CO rosters;
• Maintenance of proper filing system for HR records and documents;
• Provision of information for cost-recovery bills in Atlas for HR services provided by UNDP to other Agencies.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements in Human Resources, Law or Organizational Psychology:

• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) relevant to the internship;
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) also in a relevant area for the internship program;
• Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience :

• Proven experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc;
• Candidates will have a distinct advantage if they possess an HR Certification.
• Excellent computer skills.

Languages

• Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.

Other:

• Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the UNDP Statement of Purpose;
• Expected to demonstrate a keen interest in the field of development.

Conditions

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of:

• The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or
• The intern, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence through private sources.

Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. UNDP will not reimburse the medical insurance of the intern. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.

Applicants for internships must show proof of valid medical insurance for Mozambique. For applicants which are neither nationals or residents of the duty station, the insurance must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship duration which:

• Requires transportation to the home country or country of residence for further treatment;
• Results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the home country, or country of residence.
