GIS Officer Full-Time

The International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is hiring a GIS Officer.

Organisation Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organization that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training. INSO provides daily support to more than 1000 NGOs operating in 16 countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

INSO Mozambique

INSO provide support to enhance and preserve the safety of staff employed by NGOs offering humanitarian and emergency assistance to the people living in the northern Pemba regions of the country. By joining INSO Mozambique you will be supporting the humanitarian programs working to help the people that have been displaced and lost their livelihoods, through the provision of high-quality security advice and analysis that ensure safety of all partners in a drastically changing environment.

Job Summary

The GIS Officer is responsible for the conception, preparation, and production of appropriate static- and web-maps for INSO’s informational outputs and for ensuring dynamic linkages between GIS data and INSO’s Incident Database.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify map information needs in collaboration with the Information Management Team.
• Identify and access map information sources.
• Identify obstacles related to the collection, analysis, and dissemination of spatial information and develop appropriate improvement strategies.
• Produce and maintain high-quality, relevant static- and web-maps, including production of detailed risk maps for key roads and cities.
• Provide GIS-relevant inputs on field missions intended to gather data for INSO outputs, including maps.
• Work closely with the Information Manager to ensure accurate and regularly updated linkages between GIS maps and INSO’s Incident Database.
• Provide support in the production of any other visuals like graphics, flowcharts, dashboards, mind maps, etc.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science (GIS), Information Systems, Computer Sciences, or relevant field.
• Fluency in the English language, both written and verbal.
• 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably with an NGO.
• Excellent skills in QGIS, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office tools.
• Excellent skills in SQL and Javascript or Python.
• Be systematic, proactive, innovative, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.

Nice to Have

• Be systematic, proactive, innovative, motivated, and pay attention to detail.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Excellent skills in Adobe Creative Suite preferably InDesign and Illustrator.
• Working experience with humanitarian organizations, particularly with NGOs.

Terms & Conditions

• 12 months renewable contract subject to funding and performance. Salary based on INSO grading scale.
