Teaching Assistant Full-Time

The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the Early Years.

Introduction

The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is a certified IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, situated on a large campus in Matola, on the outskirts of Maputo. It is the third in a global network of Academies for exceptional girls and boys regardless of their socio-economic background, from Mozambique and across the globe. IB is a curriculum framework which challenges students to develop academic rigour, independent learning, inquiry and creative problem solving skills, promoting international awareness, social responsibility, open-mindedness and the high ethical standards.

The Academy is currently undergoing an exciting period of growth and is looking for a thoughtful, energetic and capable person to support the work of the Head of Academy in pursuit of excellent standards. This important role is key to the success of the Academy. Required attributes

• Preferably some good qualifications in childhood education with assessed teaching time – desirable a local degree in education;
• Previous educational experience in the kindergarten age range (3 to 5 years old), collaborated with references –desirable IB experience;
• Ability to communicate and write in Portuguese and English at good working level;
• A deep understanding of, and connection with, Mozambican culture, traditions, values and society;
  Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to interact well and communicate effectively with students and colleagues;
• Proven ability to administer sensitive information;
• An understanding of the vision of His Highness for the Aga Khan for the Academies.

Valued additional expertise

• Previous experience as a PYP teaching assistant;
• Knowledge and understanding of the wider African context;
• Experience of school residential programmes;
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
• Ability to take initiative and multi-task;
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively;
• Computer Literacy;
• Educational specialism; for example, ability to teach, singing, drama or dance.
