The Health Systems team takes a systems and cross-technical approach to ensure delivery of equitable primary health care. The Health Economist Manager will support the development and execution of health financing and economics activities across VillageReach solutions. Ideal candidates will have experience in conducting health financing, costing and economic evaluations in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Candidates eligible to work in Malawi, Mozambique or DRC are eligible to apply. This position does not qualify for relocation or work permit sponsorship.
The Health Economist position is full-time based out of one of the VillageReach’s offices in Malawi, Mozambique or DRC. One of VillageReach’s pillars is transitioning our solutions to governments or partners. To enable successful transition, we are hiring a Health Economist to lead and support programs and solution owners to (1) evaluate financial sustainability of solutions, (2) facilitate sustainable financing and incorporation of solutions in government budgets, and (3) generate evidence through economic evaluations. This position is under the Global Technical Team and will report to the Health System Team Lead, with accountability to the relevant Country Director. The Health Economist will work closely with VillageReach’s Solution Cost Analyst. The Solution Cost Analyst is responsible for determining actual and forecasted direct costs; key information needed for the Health Economist’ work. They will provide technical assistance and capacity building support related to health economics, health financing and sustainable financing as a member of the Global Technical Team, including strategy development, technical analysis, stakeholder consultation and advocacy and contributing to technical reports and briefs. Scopes of work for the first 12 months will include cost and economic evaluations for the Drones for Health (D4H) solution and community–identified solutions developed from the Bate Papo Vacina! program; building internal capacity and materials to integrate sustainable financing into Transitioning Well processes. The specific contributions and scope of work for solutions will be determined by the supervisor working with the program and solutions leads based on time availability, experience and program need.

VillageReach has no private offices, employees work in a shared, open environment with task and conference rooms accessible to employees for privacy and meetings. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Due to the time zone differences between our Seattle office and our Country Offices and location of other global staff, US based staff are expected to be available for early morning meetings starting at 6am. In addition, our global HQ and Country office staff are expected to be available for late afternoon/evening meetings up to 6pm.
Approximately 90% of the workday is spent sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
