The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is hiring an Area Manager, for Mueda in Cabo Delgado.
The conflict in Cabo Delgado Province (Northern Mozambique) started in 2017, however the situation has rapidly deteriorated since mid-2020. The conflict has intensified and expanded geographically. The attacks have led to the displacement of over 780,000 IDPs up until the end of June 2021. The 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) in Mozambique estimates that there are 1.3 million people in need in the northern part of Mozambique, out of which 1 million are targeted for assistance. More than 90 percent of people who fled the conflict are staying with family and friends in already vulnerable host communities. Insecurity has driven up the cost of basic commodities and nearly 950,000 people are facing severe hunger, as the conflict and repeated displacement have destroyed livelihoods and disrupted markets.
NRC obtained its registration in Country in 2021 and is planning to implement activities within an integrated programme which includes Rapid Emergency Response (Shelter/WASH NFI distribution), Emergency Education, Information Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) and exploring other programmatic possibilities mainly Food Security and Livelihoods FSL. NRC has set-up the basis of a country office, having established an office in Pemba and a field office in Mueda district and is rapidly recruiting staff alongside scaling up activities. There is a particular focus to implement in some of the hard-to-reach areas which have particular access constraints, especially due to the conflict.
The purpose of the Area Manager position is to ensure high quality and cost-effective programme/project implementation within the designated geographical area.
