This role will supervise vehicle use, monitor maintenance and rental service providers, and work closely with mechanics, contractors, and users to ensure timely servicing and repairs. The role will also involve traveling to UNOPS field offices in Cabo Delgado to support fleet operations, helping to keep vehicles safe, functional, and within budget. This position is based in Pemba a non-family duty station.

Based in Nairobi, UNOPS East and Southern Africa supports sustainable development across 14 countries, including Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, Tanzania, Zambia, Zanzibar, and Zimbabwe. Since 1995, UNOPS has expanded its footprint in Kenya, delivering services in project management, infrastructure, procurement, and financial management. Across the region, the office implements diverse, partner-funded initiatives that respond to national priorities. In Mozambique, this includes delivering specialized equipment (EU), supporting health services (UNICEF), promoting agro-processing (KOICA), and advancing peacebuilding efforts through a Multi-Donor Fund. UNOPS also supports agricultural input distribution and the Northern Crisis Recovery Project, both funded by the World Bank. In Malawi, efforts include developing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres in partnership with the EU and the British Council. These initiatives reflect UNOPS’ commitment to strengthening national capacities, enhancing service delivery, and supporting progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region.
Project Background:
Established in 2021, UNOPS in Mozambique operates under the UNOPS East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESAMCO). The office maintains a national presence with representation in Maputo and active project implementation across Nampula, Cabo Delgado, and Niassa provinces.
UNOPS Mozambique currently leads two flagship initiatives:
Mozambique Northern Crisis Recovery Project (NCRP): this project, funded by the World Bank, supports the Government of Mozambique in addressing the impacts of insecurity in Cabo Delgado and natural disasters. It focuses on psychosocial support, peacebuilding, livelihood development, infrastructure rehabilitation (health centers, schools, etc.), and strengthening government capacity in conflict management and project implementation.
NCRP project was structured around four key components:
At present, UNOPS work is focused exclusively on Component 3, as the other components have been successfully completed. UNOPS is currently operating across 80 active construction sites in Cabo Delgado.
Community Driven Development Fund (CDDF): which has the objective to generate sustainable livelihoods, promote inclusive and participatory development and strengthen social integration. The CDDF has two windows: district window and community window. The target groups are communities. While the district window is implemented by district authorities, the community window will be implemented by community and/or local organisations/consortia/Lead Service Providers.UNOPS manages the community window of this fund, which aims to generate sustainable livelihoods, promote inclusive and participatory development, and strengthen social integration. It supports 300 communities in 18 districts.
The projects are implemented in collaboration with government authorities and are guided by the various programme guidelines provided by the World bank- as the funding source.

Under the supervision of the Supply Chain Officer and guidance from the Support Services Manager, the Fleet and Logistics Associate is responsible for managing the condition and availability of UNOPS vehicles to support both projects and the country office. This includes supervising vehicle use, monitoring maintenance and rental service providers, and working closely with mechanics, contractors, and users to ensure timely servicing and repairs.
