The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
WFP has been present in Mozambique since 1977, and works to support and add value to the Government’s Zero Hunger agenda, with a focus on improving the food security and strengthening the resilience of individuals and communities, in the face of multiple shocks and stressors. Since June 2017, WFP activities in Mozambique – Emergency responses and Development interventions – have been implemented under its Country Strategic Plan 2017–2021 (CSP).
The CSP focuses on WFP’s areas of strength and is aligned with the Government’s Vision 2025 and its Five-Year Plan (2015–2019), which are integrated with the Mozambique United Nations Development Assistance Framework (2017–2020) and aim to support the Government of Mozambique in the implementation of Agenda 2030 and in particular, in moving towards the achievement of the targets of SDG 2: End Hunger.
Enhancing partnership is a key pillar of the WFP’s CSP in Mozambique and contributes towards collectively achieving other SDGs.
