The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition is seeking a dynamic Head of Programmes in Mozambique (HoP) to support the Country Director in fulfilling the vision and strategy of the food and nutrition portfolio in country. This role is offered on an initial fixed term contract of up to 24 months, with the expectation that this will be extended for a longer term thereafter based in Maputo.
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.
The Head of Programmes (HoP) will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and successful implementation of the GAIN Mozambique Programme Portfolio. They will ensure that GAIN’s programmes and projects are of excellent technical quality, delivered on time and on budget and coordinated. The role holder will report to the Country Director and will be a key member of the Mozambique Senior Management Team.
Specific responsibilities include
You will need to be an excellent leader with substantial programme management experience within the international development setting, some of which must be at a senior level. You will need to demonstrate an in‐depth understanding of programme issues and policy at national level in Mozambique and wider international levels. An understanding of the nutrition-food security nexus, public health and community development is essential, as is the ability to take this knowledge to conceptualise, develop and implement programmatic activity. Solid field based experience is desirable.
