The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is hiring a Coordinator – Programmes and Operations based in Beira.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 192-member National Societies. The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. Cyclone Eloise made landfall on the evening of 23 January 2021 in the port city of Beira located in Sofala Province of Central Mozambique. IFRC launched an Emergency Appeal seeking total of 5.1 million Swiss Francs to enabling IFRC to support the Mozambique Red Cross Society (MRCS) to deliver assistance to and support early recovery of some 100,000 people affected by Cyclone Eloise for 12 months. The Emergency Appeal will focus on Shelter and Essential household items (EHI), Livelihoods and Basic Needs, Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The IFRC has established a large operational structure working with CVM to implement the operation. To manage this emergency appeal, seeking a Program Coordinator for six months with the possibility to extend to work closely with CVM, IFRC team and RC/RC partners to ensure the effective implementation of the operation. In addition, the Programme Coordinator, is responsible for overseeing COVID19 response operation. The coordination of timely, efficient, and effective IFRC support to PRC in the COVID-19 operation, including in supporting the development and implementation of programmes that address longer-term impacts of COVID-19. This position will be based in Beira, Mozambique with regular travel to the field including to the two operational bases in Beira and Tete, Mozambique. The Program Coordinator will report to the Head of Delegation based on Maputo.
This position will manage the overall Cyclone Eloise response operation for the IFRC. This position will focus on: 1. Working closely with CVM to ensure the operation meets the needs of those affected by the cyclone; 2. Ensure overall implementation and management of the IFRC cyclone response operation; 3. Inform the strategic direction and decisions of the operation including risk mitigation and compliance in close coordination with IFRC Regional Office for Africa based in Nairobi.
