Head of Base/ Project Manager Full-Time

AVSI is hiring a Head of Base / Project Manager based in Beira (Ref:02/Head of Base / Project Manager/01/2021/AVSI.

Aim of the position

Under the supervision of the Country Director and Regional Manager, the Head of Base (Project Manager) has the key responsibility to coordinate and ensure the successful development and implementation of AVSI multi-sector projects in Sofala Province financed by CAFOD, UNICEF and private donors.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Coordination of the implementation of the project;
• Contributing to the recruitment, inception and training of AVSI’s programme staff;
• Management of the project staff, promotion of capacity building and co-responsibility within the team;
• Development of partnership with local partners and other stakeholders;
• Monitoring and evaluation to check the progress of the project, and valuation of the most significant experiences;
• Elaboration of narrative reports as per donor procedures and proactive support for the preparation of financial report;
• Supervision and final responsibility for all project activities;
• To be responsible for the activities implemented in the Area within the various projects and programmes, reference point for the field staff and guarantor for the respect of the proper implementation of the AVSI procedures for the various activities;
• To be responsible for the logistic and administrative procedures in concert with Operations Manager and Country Representative;
• To be the Officer in charge of the security in the Area, with reference to phasing and needed measures, in concert with the Country Representative;
• To represent AVSI in relevant coordination structures (i.e. Clusters and Working groups) and other meetings at provincial/district level;
• To identify new donors and design new funding proposals;
• To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Essential requirements

• University degree, preferably in a topic related to project management or international development;
• At least 3/5 years of professional experience in managing projects in humanitarian / emergency contexts

Additional requirements (optional)

• Previous work experience in international cooperation in Africa or Mozambique;
• Good knowledge of Italian language is an asset.

• Capable of dealing diplomatically and communicating with people from different walks of life;
• Willingness to travel within the country;
• Respect of the mission, vision and values of AVSI.

Language Proficiency:   Fluent in Portuguese and English
