The Global Edge is hiring one (1) Ecologist for Palma.
Job Description
Field Ecologist required to work on rotation in Mozambique for majour energy project;
Undertake routine ecology monitoring and ecological surveys as per Company Ecological Monitoring Plan;
Coordinate external consultants/specialists’ field Ecological Monitoring activities;
Respond to onsite wildlife encounters;
Manage contractors’ field ecological monitoring activities;
Monitor contractor compliance with ecology plans;
Provide ecological guidance for field operations;
Prepare and deliver ecology training and awareness materials;
Oversee site reclamation activities, ensuring all sites all temporarily disturbed sites are promptly rehabilitated to as close as possible to pre-disturbance condition;
Drives initiatives to minimize/avoid site ecological imbalances (prevention of fauna killing, identification and elimination of invasive species, etc.);
Plan and implement the Project’s overall biodiversity and ecosystems services (BES) program.
Develop/update BES management and monitoring plans/procedures;
Engagement with contractors to ensure they understand and meet Project BES requirements;
Manage consultants to ensure their ecological surveys and deliverables are on time and of excellent quality;
Continually review the level of project adherence to IFC PS, particularly PS6, and identify gaps or upcoming issues which may impact project financing or company reputation as it relates to biodiversity and develop and implement appropriate mitigations;
Liaise with partners and Area 4 to ensure minimal overlap and maximum efficiency on biodiversity related aspects;
Develop and implement a biodiversity stakeholder engagement plan;
Interact with internal and external stakeholders to support the accurate two-way exchange of information;
Establish and lead an internal Biodiversity Working Group and ensure clear communication between the organizations represented in the group;
Provide senior management and project personnel accurate information related to IFC PS6 related activities and requirements;
Support the environmental and social lender due diligence process;
Recommend BES performance metrics based on Project requirements and track progress;
Develop and implement a comprehensive and Lenders compliant biodiversity offset program.
Support environmental audits and implementation of corrective actions;
Development of biodiversity related training materials and roll out of such;
Inputs in to reports on BES performance internally and externally (i.e. government, lenders);
Minimum graduate or post-graduate degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Conservation, Ecology, Biology, Biodiversity or any related subjects;
Ability to manage contractors compliance with applicable requirements;
Ability to work in fast paced environments with autonomy and to communicate and engage with stakeholder;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations and with cross-discipline professionals (construction project);
Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory. Proficient working knowledge of French is a benefit.
