The Child Protection Specialist reports to the Chief, Child Protection for guidance and general supervision. The Specialist will have the primary responsibility for the Social Protection component of the Child Protection Programme. H/She will be responsible to support the design, operationalization, monitoring and evaluation of the Child Grant (0-2 years) with a focus on its care (case management) component. H/She will lead the design and operationalization of the other two child grants stipulated in the National Basic Social Protection Strategy 2016-2024 (referred to as the ENSSB II) targeting orphans in poor and vulnerable households and child-headed households. H/She will contribute to the broader social protection agenda of the UNICEF Mozambique Country Office, participate in relevant internal and external social protection forums, and work in close collaboration with the Social Policy, Evaluation and Research Section. In addition, the Specialist will oversee the quality and provide technical support to studies, research and evaluations undertaken by the Child Protection Section. The Specialist will supervise one Social Protection Specialist (NOC) and one Child Protection Specialist (NOC).
The Specialist contributes to the achievement of results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework.
The strategic and effective advocacy, planning and formulation of child protection programmes/projects and the achievement of sustainable results, contributes to the achievement of goals and objectives to create a protective environment for children against harm, all forms of violence and ensures their survival, development and well being in society. Achievements in child protection programmes and projects in turn contributes to maintaining and enhancing the credibility and ability of UNICEF to provide programme services for mothers and children that promotes greater social equality in the country.
