Job Description

The Technical Specialist will be joining Fenix International from before our launch in Mozambique, which will give the Technical Specialist an opportunity to work in two different capacities from the beginning. The Technical Specialist will be in charge of Quality Control and of understanding the technical intricacies of our Solar Home Systems to assess the reasons for failure and make repairs. As the company grows rapidly the Technical Specialist will have an opportunity to enter a management position or work in a variety of capacities within the Fenix Operations team based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Assessment

• Work with the Operations Lead to set up initial technical operations procedures;
• Conduct tech trainings to internal teams and Fenix wide teams;
• Assess SmartLife damage, assess and perform basic accessory repairs and conduct basic special testing requests;
• Lead the sorting and refurbishment of all SmartLife kits and accessories;
• Coordinate with after sales service operations team on the incoming returns for breaking apart, tamper assessments and refurbishment;
• Coordinate with Customer service engineers on failure categorization of incoming faulty product for refurbishment, product diagnostics and repair;
• Make accurate records, product quality reports on daily inventory for refurbished SmartLife product and entering accurate information in FenixDB;
• Support in field visits and ready pay home installations when required;
• Work closely with the after-sales service team to improve after-sales services, including diagnostics and repairs of ReadyPay products and minimize “false swaps”.

Quality Control Oversight

• Assist the Engineers in maintaining the quality control standards and work instructions at production facilities;
• Ensure only quality products are sent to the field by maintaining the quality control standards and ensuring all testing is performed properly by all team members;
• Coordinate with Warehouse Team Lead, Inventory Team Lead, and Operations Lead to make sure that quality control systems are in place and all processes are followed
• Perform other duties as tasked by the manager.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum Certificate/Diploma in Electronics, Computer Science/IT or Related Education;
• Ability to resolve complex technical issues and follow up on solution implementation;
• Ability to lead, nurture and develop diagnosis + repair skills of Technicians;
• Can work autonomously without direct supervision;
• Experience using testing equipment (multimeter (voltage/ohm meter), power supply, electrical load);
• Ability to calibrate testing equipment;
• Experience using electrical equipment (solder gun, hot air blower);
• Basic understanding of electrical themes (voltage, current, power) and components (Resistors, Inductors);
• Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills;
• Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written);
• Ability to keep a clean and organized workstation to quality specification;
• A passion for Fenix and our customers.
